Bryce

Bryce is Paige’s little brother, the son of a rare book dealer. He was born into a family that prized kindness, magic, and storytelling, yet by his teens he was at odds with all of it.

He resented his family’s saccharine good cheer, and could bear still less his parents’ refusal to let him dabble in magics they deemed too dangerous. His sister tried everything she could think of to keep him out of trouble, but the more she counseled him, the more he turned away.

Then one day Paige came home from the library to find her brother gone and her parents in tears. She still does not know what Bryce did to be kicked out of the house, and the silence around it has never been broken.

Ever since, finding him has been Paige’s obsession, and it is what drew her into this whole storm. Whenever she speaks of him, there is an edge of urgency in her voice.

“I just hope I'm not too late to save him.”

“我只希望我还没来得及救他。”

To Bebop, it was an unfamiliar name; on hearing it he simply trusted that if Bryce was anything like Paige, he must be a good person.

More than a few people seem to know Bryce better than Paige does. Seven spoke his name unprompted, and arranged to talk with her after the ritual.

“Bryce.”

“布莱斯”

Vyper speaks of him with easy familiarity, as if the two of them used to hang out together.

“Her brother was way more fun to hang out with..”

“跟她弟弟一起玩更有趣”

Venator, for his part, told Paige to her face that her brother is beyond saving.

“I'm sorry, Paige, your brother is beyond saving.”

“佩吉，我很抱歉，你弟弟已经无可救药了”

Paige has seen something of him in Graves, too: to her ear, the two sound just alike.

“You sound just like Bryce.”

“你说话跟布莱斯一模一样”
