In Search of the Tyrant Skull
《寻找暴君颅骨》
In Search of the Tyrant Skull is a book by the explorer Kelvin. In the eyes of the assassin Calico, the man in its pages is sanctimonious, and preaches from cover to cover.
The book has had more than one reader. Calico read it, and came to suspect a gap between the author himself and the figure in its pages. In the course of some ordinary small talk, she politely asked whether she might put a question to him, and then laid the matter out without ceremony.
“You're not as sanctimonious as you are in your book are you?”
“你本人其实没有书里那么道貌岸然,对吧?”TL
Kelvin first asked which one she meant. Once she had named the title, he offered no defense, only what other people say of it.
“"In Search of the Tyrant Skull".”
“《寻找暴君颅骨》。”TL
“People say that was me at my most humble.”
“大家都说那本书里的我已经是最谦逊的了。”TL
By that account, even a book she found so preachy shows him, in the eyes of the world, at his most humble. Calico only sighed, “Oh dear,” and when Kelvin pressed her on what she meant by that, she pleaded that the ritual was starting and set the subject aside.
