The Soul Urn
The Soul Urn is a vessel full of souls, and the prize that two sides fight over in the streets of New York. Only when someone delivers it safely to its destination does the errand count.
The Urn always starts out lying quietly in the street, waiting to be claimed. The voices of the Patrons announce its arrival:
“The Spirit Urn is waiting to be claimed.”
“灵瓮正等待领取”
The souls inside, it is said, are not silent. The Urn itself once murmured where it is bound:
“You can empty me out at the center temple…”
“你可以在中央神殿把我倒空……”TL
The center temple is the Urn’s final stop. Only when the souls have been carried there and emptied out is the journey complete.
The moment someone shoulders the Urn, the whole city holds its breath. The Patrons remind their own side to guard whoever carries it, and sound the alarm at every move the other side makes:
“We must deliver the Urn safely.”
“我们必须安全运送灵瓮”
“The Hidden King is trying to deliver the Urn.”
“隐王正打算运送灵瓮”
For those who carry it, the Urn is a burden and an opportunity both. Ivy admits that with some fresh help, delivering the Spirit Jar becomes a breeze:
“This'll make delivering the Spirit Jar a breeze...”
“这下送灵魂罐可就轻松多了……”TL
For those who contend for it, the Urn is a race everyone is watching. Mo & Krill call it out to their companions before it has even arrived:
“Urn will be here soon!”
“魂瓮很快就到!”TL
There is still no sure account of who made the Urn, or of where the souls inside it come from.
What is certain is that whenever the Urn appears, the Patrons’ announcements never cease, and neither side backs down.
