Lili Fairfax’s name is forever bound up with a rumor of lavish generosity: she is said to have given her daughter a John Waterhouse as a birthday present.
Hearing the story, Violet made a point of asking Deadman Danny whether it was true:
“Is it true that Lili Fairfax gave her daughter a John Waterhouse for a birthday present?”
“听说莉莉·菲尔法克斯送了女儿一幅约翰·沃特豪斯的画当生日礼物，是真的吗？”TL
Deadman Danny hadn’t heard that rumor, but didn’t find it surprising either:
“I haven't heard that rumor, but it is certainly plausible”

Violet called it simply insane; Deadman Danny’s verdict was a good deal more restrained:
“I would say eccentric”
