The Knickerbockers

The Knickerbockers are the professional basketball team of New York, and they have worked their way into nearly every corner of the city. Street vendors, regulars at the gambling tables, even a Soul Urn: sooner or later, their talk always comes round to the next game.

Billy is the team’s most diehard supporter. When it comes to fires in his city he has never given an inch — unless the Knickerbockers win the championship.

“The only person that sets fires in my city is me. Unless the Knickerbockers win the championship, then I'm fine with a little public rioting, but in general just me.”

Even in a year when the team is doing badly, they are never far from his lips, and he uses them to jeer at his opponents.

“And I thought the Knickerbockers sucked this year…”

Baba, too, seems to be a familiar face at the games, and so she is told she’ll be seen at the next one.

“See ya at the Knickerbocker game, Baba”

The Soul Urn, tired of the task at hand, would sooner forget the whole thing and watch the game.

“Oh forget it, I'm watching the Knickerbockers game.”

“算了算了，我还是看尼克博克队的比赛吧。”TL

To the likes of Wraith, the team is a number on the betting line; even the Soul Urn asks her the spread on the game.

“Hey, while I have you here, what's the spread on the Knickerbockers game?”

“嘿，趁你在这儿，尼克斯队的比赛盘口是多少？”TL

Off the court the story turns darker: the team’s center was found with both legs broken.

“Late last night, Nathan Veiss, the center for the Knickerbockers, was found with their legs broken. Reports that it involved a gambling debt to a madison avenue curio shop owner have yet to be substaniated”
