The Baroness

In the streets and alleys of New York, the name “The Baroness” is always spoken under one’s breath. No one can quite say whom it refers to; all anyone knows is that it is inseparable from the hotel of the same name. Who is master behind the doors of the Baroness has never been answered for certain.

The Doorman is the name’s most faithful spokesman. He is unfailingly courteous, and whenever he speaks of it, he sounds as if he were relaying the wishes of a master. As he tells it, no one resists its call.

“No one resists the call of The Baroness.”
