Pocket's Case
Hiding place and prison both
What Pocket never lets out of reach is more than a box. It is a suitcase, yes, but it is also Pocket’s hiding place, and the means by which he slips out of danger.
Angry spirits are shut away inside the case. Pocket can let them out, and can also take refuge inside it when danger comes. He is anything but easy about this power.
“The power in this case is terrifying…”
“这个手提箱里的力量令人恐惧…”
Nor, it seems, is there any shortage of spirits.
“This case isn't running out of ghosts anytime soon…”
“这个手提箱里的幽灵可不会用完了…”
When someone asked him to his face what was in the case, Pocket gave only a vague answer.
“Something dangerous”
“危险的东西”
The detective Abrams knew who he was, and urged him to take his case and get clear of the whole affair.
“I know who you are, Pocket…trust me when I tell you it's not worth it…”
“我知道你是谁,口袋…相信我,这不值得…”
Others take a very different line. Paradox of Paradox has demanded it openly more than once, in a tone close to an order.
“Just give me the case, Pocket, save us all some time.”
“把手提箱给我就行了,口袋,省得大家都浪费时间”
Graves just as bluntly demanded that he hand the case over. Dynamo only wanted a look at it after the ritual, and was turned down flat by Pocket.
“I'm afraid not”
“恐怕不行”
Pocket knows full well how much covetousness the case draws. He has vowed to do whatever it takes to keep it from his father.
“I'll do whatever it takes to keep this case from my father.”
“无论如何,我都要把这个案子瞒着我父亲。”TL
Whatever the truth may be, the case still goes with Pocket, back and forth through the dark nights of New York.
