Paradox
悖论
Paradox is a notorious thieves’ guild in the shadows of New York, famed for elaborate heists aimed at the most untouchable of people and institutions. Its members wear masks, give up their own names, and act under the organization’s.
Paradox is one of them, and the spokeswoman the guild is happiest to show.
“I gave up my name to join Paradox… and it's a choice I would gladly make again.”
“我放弃了自己的名字加入悖论……这个选择我愿意再做一次”
“I represent Paradox. And we always get what we want.”
“我代表的是悖论。我们总是得到我们想要的东西”
What the guild steals are artifacts, secrets, even the scandals of the famous, and it puts the spoils on show in pop-up museums that open and close at whim — the Paradox Museum. Blackmail is another of their games, and they make no secret of bragging about their spoils.
“We're a bunch of bored rich people, of course we brag about what we stole.”
“我们是一群无聊的有钱人,当然要炫耀我们拿走了什么”
Family
Paradox sees itself as a “family” — competitive, but always coming together in the end. Venator calls them a den of thieves and demands they return what they stole; Paradox refuses outright, only sighing that she would have expected him to understand.
“You know nothing of Paradox. Like any family we can get competitive with each other, but ultimately we always come together in the end.”
“你对悖论一无所知。就像任何家庭一样,我们之间也会有竞争,但最终我们总会团结一致”
A Thieves’ Guild in Name
When Ivy calls them a thieves’ guild, Paradox answers that it is more of an honorific, just as Freemasons aren’t actually working with stone. As they tell it, they relocate items of public interest and share them with the world for free.
“Freemasons aren't actually working with stone. Thieves guild is more of an honorific.”
“共济会其实和石头也合不来。盗贼公会更多的是一种荣誉头衔”
Victims and Adversaries
They have already paid a visit to Lady Geist’s home, and her late husband’s painting is rumored to have ended up in Paradox’s hands; she mocks the organization as a little social club. As for the bottle Mirage carries, Paradox, flippant as ever, has an eye on it for the museum.
“That bottle is going to look so pretty in The Paradox Museum.”
“那个瓶子放在悖论博物馆里肯定会很漂亮”
Seven faults them for wasting their might on publicity stunts, and gets nothing for it but a cool rebuff. Abrams, for his part, has had a warning: Paradox has been following his work, and he should stop asking questions about them.
“We like secrets, and you seem to have a knack for finding them. But a word of advice: some things aren't meant to be revealed. Stop asking questions about us.”
“我们喜欢秘密,而你似乎很擅长发现秘密。不过,给你个忠告:有些事情不应该被揭露。别再问我们了”
Hearing that Paradox holds Le Champignon de Lazarus, Nurse Harrow demanded it to their face: they only want to keep it in a glass case, she said, while she wants to use it to save lives. Paradox asked why they would ever do that, then granted that it was noble of her — but the choice, sadly, was not Paradox’s to make.
A Fan
Violet has been to three Paradox Museums and is an ardent devotee of the guild; she has even asked how Paradox decides which stolen art to keep. Paradox has promised her a little preview of the next pop-up after the ritual, and does not forget to warn her: once she is famous, that master art thief will probably try to rob her.
“Well, become famous and he'll probably try to rob you.”
“如果你成名了,他很可能会抢你”
