The Upstart Gallery

The Upstart Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art’s celebration of student artists, has long been a prestigious affair.

Violet was included in her junior year of art school. Before that, she had already walked through the doors of art school on a full ride. For a girl who moved to New York only at twelve, it was the reward for all the passion she had poured into her work.

Yet inclusion did nothing to quiet her unease. She knows full well that an artist’s success depends not only on whether the work is good, but far more on being seen by the right person at the right time.

She once brought the exhibition up with Lady Geist:

“Did you see the Upstart Gallery?”

“你看过“新秀画廊”吗？”TL

Then she added a line that took her listener’s interest for granted:

“As an art lover I'd thought you'd want to go.”

“作为艺术爱好者，我还以为你会想去呢。”TL
