Van Cortlandt Park
范科特兰公园
Where it all began
Van Cortlandt Park lies in the north of New York. To ordinary eyes it is nothing more than a stretch of city green; for Graves, it is where everything began.
When she was still a girl, she followed a whisper in her ear and dug up, from the earth here, a severed hand sealed in a lead box: the Lich Hand. The voice imprisoned for so many years awoke at last, and the Lich found a student willing to take up her legacy.
Later, when someone pressed her on where the hand had come from, she gave only the name of the park:
“Van Cortland Park”
“范科特兰公园。”TL
Mo & Krill wanted to know whether the thing had simply been lying around on the ground:
“Just laying around?”
“就那么扔在地上?”TL
Graves would not have it: the hand had been buried with care, not carelessly tossed aside:
“I mean it was buried in lead box, its not like it was left on a random bench.”
“我是说,它埋在铅盒里,又不是随手丢在长椅上。”TL
Why it was sealed in lead and buried here, no one has ever said.
