The Brownstone Incident

An operation no one will discuss

Something once happened in the Brownstone: Venator went to work there, lives were saved, and the methods he used drew no small amount of hatred. As one of the Venators, he gives no ground on it.

He makes no excuses for it.

“Hate my methods all you want, I saved lives.”

“你们尽管讨厌我的方法,但我救了人命”

— Venator, to Abrams

Abrams, though, believes there was a way to save more.

“There was a way to save more.”

“有个办法能救更多的”

— Abrams, to Venator

The Venator’s answer: the other way meant risking more, and had it failed, god help them all. He does not blame Abrams for lacking the stomach to do what needed to be done; he insists only that what happened in that brownstone is his burden alone.

“No there was a way to risk more, and god help us all if we failed. I don't blame you for not having the stomach to do what needed to be done, but sleep easy knowing that what happened in that brownstone is my burden alone not yours.”

“不,还有办法冒更大的风险,如果失败了,上帝保佑我们所有人。我不怪你没有勇气去做该做的事,但你要知道,那栋褐石屋里发生的一切,只关乎我一个人,与你无关”

— Venator, to Abrams

Abrams has not made his peace with it; he still holds himself to blame for not stepping in to stop it.

“I should have stopped you.”

“我早该阻止你的”

— Abrams, to Venator
