The Baxter Society

The Baxter Society is an international band of monster hunters devoted to tracking down the monsters that feed on the living. In many eyes, they are supposed to be the good guys.

Grey Talon is one of the Society’s founding members, and his name is all but inseparable from its legend. Asked about it, he freely admits he was a founder; as for the Society’s name, he says he built it himself — and the reputation of monster hunters is the least of his concerns. He has since retired.

“I built it's name. And the reputation of monster hunters is the least of my concern.”

Ivy has read lots of stories about the Society and is excited to fight alongside its legend; Kelvin, too, believes the Society has done a lot of good, and has even asked it to put him down should he ever lose himself.

The Society’s face today is Shiv, its newest recruit. By his own account, the Society once saved his life, and now it is his turn to save others. Others are less kind in their view of him.

“If he's the future of the Baxter Society, they're going to be in trouble.”

“The Baxter Society will let anyone in these days, huh?”

“如今拜克斯特协会什么人都收啊？”

Calico was once a decorated member of the Society, but decided that killing monsters for free was less profitable than killing people for money, and left. For that, some call her the “black sheep” of the Society.

“The black sheep of the Baxter Society is dead.”

Nor is the Society all of one piece. Shiv has admitted that it has troubles of its own at present, and must clean up its own house first.

“Trust me sheriff, if we don't clean up our own house you'll be wishing for Troubadour sized problems.”

A member of Paradox once tried to steal from the Society, and what became of that thief still gives the rest of them pause. For that very reason, someone has wanted a look inside the Manor House, only for Grey Talon to advise against it.

One of the Venators has said it is always a pleasure to work with the Society.

Others, though, are sure the Society’s best days are behind it.

Deadman Danny thinks no better of it, calling it a relic of the past.

“The Baxter Society is a relic of the past, and no longer needed.”

Still, he has wondered, half in mockery, whether the Society does licensing deals. The remark was aimed at Shiv.

“I wonder if the Baxter Society does licensing deals…”
