Marksman
Macomb’s Avenging Gun
“I'm not leaving New York until I stop the Troubadour.”
Abilities
Holliday depends on her skills as a crack shot, shooting things she's bounced into the air. With good aim she can lay out heavy damage. Her movement skills let her isolate her enemies or beat a hasty retreat.
Powder Keg
Throw a barrel that explodes when shot
Throw a barrel that explodes after a delay, dealing spirit damage, setting enemies on fire and applying knockup. The barrel can be detonated early by being shot, melee'd, or detonated by another barrel. The burn stacks, so overlapping barrels burn for their combined damage. Can be Alt-Cast to place the barrel in front of Holliday.
Lore
There are people who spent their whole lives dreaming about moving to New York. Holliday isn't one of those people. Content with being a Sheriff in a small town, Holliday enjoyed a career where the only time she had to use her gun was when trick shooting at the county fair...then the murders started.
Grisly and inhumane; the bodies were found with their ribcages ripped open... their innards picked apart as if by birds. Holliday tracked down the killer, a travelling folk musician that the media dubbed "The Troubadour", but when she confronted him he exploded into a murder of crows and flew away.
That was 6 months ago, and while the murders in central Illinois have stopped, Holliday's investigation has not. She believes that The Troubadour is travelling to New York, and when she finds him she's going to kill that evil son of a bitch.
What They Seek
Run down the Troubadour and kill him herself
She cannot understand why the Baxter Society, hunters of monsters, isn’t trying to stop the Troubadour; when Shiv pleads that the society has its own problems right now, she sneers that it must be nice having the luxury to drag their feet. Asked by Grey Talon what she wants from the Patron, she tosses back a single word: “Revenge.” She let her town down once, she says, and today she is going to make it right.
She takes the ritual as a bitter pill she has to swallow, yet she is sure she needs the Patrons and has never once thought of quitting halfway.
“I don't have time to mess around with a ritual, lives are at stake…”
“我没时间跟这些仪式瞎折腾了,人命关天…”
Both Patrons are courting Holliday

The Archmother
“Holliday, your grandfather casts a long shadow... but you can still make him proud. Summon The Archmother and she will help you find justice.”
“哈雷黛,你祖父的影响力巨大……但你依然可以让他感到骄傲。召唤源祖,她会帮助你伸张正义”
She can still make her grandfather proud, and if she sees the ritual through, her success is assured.

Biography
She wears a cowboy hat and an heirloom revolver at her hip, yet she will never let anyone call her a cowboy. In her own telling she is a sheriff from the Midwest, a woman who wears her duty like a name.
She came from the cornfields of Illinois to a city that is not hers, with no eye for the sights and no wish to stay. Only one thing is on her mind: putting the man who flew off as a flock of crows six feet under.
“Paige, the Troubadour is out there, and until he is 6 feet under, I don't care about the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Dana's Steak Shrine, or any other "fun" New York activity.”
“佩吉,那个吟游诗人还逍遥法外,除非他被埋进六尺深的土里,不然我才不管什么布鲁克林大桥、自由女神像、丹娜牛排神殿,或是纽约其他任何“好玩”的活动”
Origins
Her home is Macomb, a small town in central Illinois. Outsiders often get it wrong: Wraith once called her “a sheriff from Missoula,” and she corrected her on the spot. Abrams, later, addressed her properly as “the Sheriff from Macomb.” In her eyes, every strange thing in the world can be measured against that little town. Faced with a monster crawled up out of the sea, all she will mutter is that you don’t see those things in Macomb.
“Macomb”
“马科姆”
At ten she was Corn Princess of the Macomb Harvest Festival, a small fact she later told Mina to her face, as if bearing witness to a plainer, happier time.
“When I was 10 I was Corn Princess of the Macomb Harvest Festival.”
“我10岁的时候当过马科姆丰收节的玉米公主”
She is a sheriff, she says, not a cowboy. To Vyper she would say only that home lies “further south” than Cook County. When Bebop asked whether a sheriff isn’t just a cowboy with a badge, she answered: not in the Midwest. That stubbornness has become something of a signature.
“Not in the midwest.”
“不在中西部。”
Before the nightmare, she was content with that life. She enjoyed the work of a small-town sheriff, and her gun hardly ever left its holster except for trick shooting at the county fair. Now she says the gun’s not for show.
“The gun's not for show…”
“这把枪不是用来表演的…”
The revolver is an heirloom of the Holliday Family. She told Mo & Krill it belonged to her grandfather, and that it is not for sale. Another time she said her dad gave her the gun, and damn sure taught her how to use it; and there was a moment when she quietly asked Grandpa to guide her hand.
“Thanks. It belonged to my grandfather.”
“谢谢。这是我祖父的”
“Dad gave me the gun, and he damn sure taught me how to use it.”
“爸爸给了我这把枪,而且他确实教了我如何使用它。”
She never got to meet this grandfather, yet she has lived her whole life in the shadow of his name. Drifter says he knows whose gun that is. Haze puts it more bluntly: he was a legend, and she is a disappointment. When Abrams asked whether she was related to the man, she answered only “Yeah”; only at the words “long shadow” did she say she tries not to think about it.
“I never got to meet my Grandpa… but I know I'll make him proud.”
“我从未见过我的爷爷… 但我知道我会让他感到骄傲”
“I know who's gun that is. You gonna be able to make him proud?”
“我知道那是谁的枪。你能让他感到骄傲吗?”
She had a sister, too, who is no longer living. When Ivy innocently brought up the deep breaths her own sister had taught her, Holliday answered only, “My sister’s dead,” and Ivy shut up at once. Rem would later put it in his own words: a sad sheriff with a dead sister.
“My sister's dead.”
“我妹妹过世了”
Then came the case. The victims’ ribcages had been ripped open, their innards picked apart as if by birds. The killer was a travelling folk musician the papers dubbed “The Troubadour.” She tracked him all the way down, but when she confronted him he burst into a murder of crows before her eyes and flew away. That was six months ago. The killings around Macomb have stopped since; her investigation has not. She still believes she let her town down, and that today she is going to make it right. Venator and the Doorman, when they stand against her, aim for exactly that wound: she failed to stop the Troubadour in Macomb, and the people of Macomb deserved better than her.
“I let my town down once, but I'm gonna make it right today.”
“我曾经让我的家乡失望过,但我今天一定要弥补过错”
“You failed to stop The Troubadour in Macomb and you'll fail again in New York.”
“你没能阻止马科姆的游吟诗人,你还会在纽约再次失败”
Old Friends and Foes
Grey Talon: Another Who Lost His Own
Grey Talon lost his son, his daughter-in-law and his grandchildren. Revenge, he told her, isn’t for the dead; it’s for the living. She answered, “I knew I liked you.” From her, that is rare warmth.
Holliday and Grey Talon, exchange 2

Can I give you an unsolicited word of advice Holliday?

Why not.

People are going to tell you that there is a difference between justice and revenge, that you will dishonor the dead by stooping to their killer's level…ignore them. Revenge isn't for the dead. It's for the living.

I knew I liked you.
Yet when they meet as foes, nothing is left but regret. Bringing him down, she says she doesn’t want to do this; and when he brings her down, he first tells her he is sorry.
“I'm sorry, Holliday.”
“我很抱歉,哈雷黛”
Drifter: The One Who Tells Her to Let It Go
Drifter warned her that to the Troubadour, Macomb was just a fun time to be lost in the ocean of memory, but that if he knew he had his hooks in her, she would become his hobby. So let it go, he urged. She answered only that she was getting real tired of people telling her that.
Drifter and Holliday, exchange 1

You're looking for The Troubadour, right?

That's right. You got a tip for me?

Yeah, you don't wanna find him.

I'm getting real tired of people telling me that.

Macomb matters a lot to you, but to him it was just a fun time that will get lost in the ocean of memory. But if you find him… if he knows he got his hooks in you? You're going to be his hobby.

What's that mean.

Oh I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise, but trust me Sheriff… for your sake. Let it go.
He has also tried to give her orders, and she turned him down flat: she doesn’t take orders from him. She has said, too, that she is not letting another serial killer get away.
“I'm not letting another serial killer get away.”
“我不会再让一个恶徒逍遥法外”
Abrams: The Partner at Her Side
Hearing that she was the sheriff from Macomb, Abrams offered his condolences. He laid out the division of labor: she grabs ’em, he punches their skulls in. She said she liked it.
“I was thinking you grab 'em than I punch their skull in.”
“我在想你抓住他们然后我打碎他们的头骨”
She still calls him Detective. On the day they stood on opposite sides, she turned on him and left only a “Sorry, Detective.”
“Sorry, Detective…”
“对不起侦探…”
Venator: The One Who Prayed With Her
Venator told her that what happened in Macomb wasn’t her fault. She answered: you weren’t there. He urged her to harden her heart and not let her sense of law and order get in the way of what needs to be done; she answered that the law is the farthest thing from driving her. She still remembers that he prayed with her. The prayer brought no peace, but it was nice, she said, that he tried.
“It didn't. But it was nice that you tried.”
“没有成功。不过,尝试过了还是很好的”
Vindicta: Two Women With Guns
Vindicta freely admitted to shooting Hathorne’s brother on a speedboat. Hearing it, Holliday said at once that she would have to arrest her now; the answer came that she was more than welcome to try. Later, with a fight at hand, Vindicta told her to bind them and leave the rest to her, and she answered, half in mockery, “Yeah, that’s not ominous.” Vindicta said she had little faith in servants of the law; Holliday shot back that laws have come a long way since Vindicta died, and Vindicta answered that they really haven’t. Still, fighting at her side, watching how that woman shoots, she marvels: that is one scary lady.
“Yeah, that's not ominous.”
“是的,这并不糟糕”
“That is one scary lady…”
“那是一个可怕的女人…”
Seven: An Ally She Cannot Trust
Seven is the one who escaped Lost Whisper. He mocked her for being so consumed by revenge that she would fight alongside even a fugitive like him; she told him not to talk to her, and said that when this was over she would have to turn him in.
“When this is over I have to turn you in.”
“等这一切结束后,我必须把你交出去”
When the sides turn, she brings him down saying she knew she couldn’t trust him. When he brings her down, he reaches for her grandfather’s name instead: the old man would be so disappointed.
“I knew I couldn't trust you…”
“我就知道我不能相信你…”
“Your grandfather would be so disappointed, Holliday”
“你爷爷会很失望的,哈雷黛”
Paradox and Haze: Those Tied to OSIC
Paradox warned her not to trust OSIC: their goals and hers are not in alignment. Holliday mocked Paradox for running around with a fishbowl on her head and asked whether she had fallen in a vat of clocks; Paradox retorted that it is not wise to mock Paradox. Paradox calls the city the Cursed Apple, and says it may not be the place for her; and when the two meet as foes, Paradox says outright that she wants that gun, the one with history.
“So what's your story lady, you fall in a vat of clocks?”
“那么,你的故事是什么,小姐,你掉进了一大桶钟表里面?”
“That gun has history, Holliday…. I want it.”
“那把枪有历史了,哈雷黛…我想要它”
Haze, for her part, already had a file on her, and said their partnership would be good for everyone. Holliday answered that she is happy to work with anyone who doesn’t get in her way. Yet when they stand opposed, Haze tells her to leave the Troubadour to the OSIC: the professionals will take it from here.
“Leave The Troubadour to the OSIC.”
“把游吟诗人留给OSIC”
Shiv and Silver: Others With an Eye on the Troubadour
Shiv invited her, if she made it out alive, to look up the Baxter Society. She said she would think about it, while also taking the society to task for dragging its feet while innocent people are dying.
“I'll think about it…”
“我会考虑的…”
Silver remarked that she seemed a little far from her jurisdiction, and wanted to make sure she wasn’t making a career change. Holliday answered that she was not going after any of her bounties: once she stops the Troubadour, she is going back home. Yet when they meet as foes, Silver warns that Holliday is not keeping her from that bounty on the Troubadour.
“You're not keeping me from that bounty on the Troubadour”
“你可拦不住我去赚游吟诗人的赏金”
Infernus and Ivy: Rare Gentle Moments
Infernus is helping a friend, and she told him it was noble. When Infernus suggested a chat at the bar once this was over, she said it sounded like a plan; Infernus joked that it sounded like a date. She has said, too, that she heard about Ivy on the news, and that it is hard not to say nice things about her.
Apollo and Lash: The Ones She Can’t Stand
Apollo told her she hadn’t slept in days; she shot back, “Who are you, my mother?” Lash hardly bears mentioning: she needs him to talk to her as little as humanly possible, and in exchange she won’t knock his teeth in.
“Who are you, my mother?”
“你是谁,我的母亲吗?”
Vyper, Wraith and Lady Geist: People She Won’t Abide
Vyper asked whether she was a cop because she liked the law or because she liked the power trip; she answered that she upholds the law. “We should not be friends,” said Vyper. Wraith runs a gambling ring, and Holliday warned her: either she shuts it down, or Murphy is going to shut it down for her. As for Lady Geist, Holliday holds her to be no better than the Troubadour.
“I uphold the law.”
“我维护法律”
Rem, Pocket and Graves: The Children She Can’t Help Protecting
Sharp-tongued as she is, she cannot stop worrying about the young. To Rem she said: stay close to me, and I’m going to try to keep you safe. She asked Pocket whether she would have to look after him. To Graves she said it isn’t safe here.
“I'm going to try.”
“我打算试试”
Anecdotes
Lodgings. Rather than stay at the Baroness Hotel, she picked the cheapest hotel she could find in Hell's Kitchen, saying a sheriff from the Midwest couldn’t afford the place. The Doorman insisted the stay would be complimentary, and she thanked him.
“The cheapest hotel in Hell's Kitchen that I could find.”
“我在地狱厨房能找到的最便宜的酒店”
Jurisdiction. Her authority in this city only goes so far. She has been told she is a little far from her jurisdiction, and she admits she doesn’t know the area; she can only hope local law enforcement is glad to have her.
“You're not in my jurisdiction.”
“你不在我的管辖范围内”
Expenses. Gathering up souls, she says they’ll fund the investigation. When Wraith asked if she was a gambling woman, she answered with a single “No.”
Sightseeing. She makes it plain as she sets out: she didn’t come to New York to be a tourist. When Ivy invited her along, she replied that she was here to catch a killer, not go sightseeing.
The Law. She told Venator the law is the farthest thing from driving her. Yet in a fight she keeps saying that she is the law.
Marriage. Of the explosives in her hands, she says this stuff is more unstable than her first marriage.
“This stuff's more unstable than my 1st marriage…”
“这东西比我的第一次婚姻更不稳定…”
Anger. Mirage says she is blinded by hatred. When Ivy asked whether she was angry all the time, she answered that it is hard not to be.
“You're blinded by hatred Holliday.”
“你被仇恨蒙蔽了双眼,哈雷黛”
The Rich. When McGinnis brought up rich people, her view held steady: she is from central Illinois, she said, and just assumes they are assholes with god complexes. Talking with Kelvin, she first remarked that he looked more out of place than she did; when he said he was just looking for answers, she replied, “Aren’t we all…”
“Aren't we all…”
“我们不都是…”
Partners. She calls Bebop tin man and likes the way he thinks: as long as he pulls ’em in, she grabs ’em. With Billy the best she can call it is an awkward partnership: one says that having to work with a pig doesn’t mean having to talk to one, the other that she has no time for this goat-boy. She told him he was that goat guy Murphy always talks about, and then that Murphy really doesn’t have it out for him.
“You're that goat guy Murphy always talks about aren't you”
“你就是墨菲总挂在嘴边说的那个山羊人吧”
“I don't have time for this, goat-boy.”
“我没时间陪这个山羊小子”
Poor Fits. Celeste offered glitter, and she turned it down flat: she’s not a circus girl. For the tricks of Sinclair she has no patience either.
The City. She says it again and again: New York brings out all the crazies, Victor not excepted.
