The Djinn
The Djinn are a mysterious people from beyond this world. In Mirage’s words, the Djinn are special people who sleep in bottles, the way others sleep in beds.
“Oh, goodness no. Djinn are special people that sleep in bottles, like you sleep in beds.”
“哎呀,天哪,当然不是。精灵是一种特别的人,睡在瓶子里,就像你睡在床上一样。”TL
They possess great power, yet they cannot keep a corporeal form among us for longer than forty-eight minutes without resting within a vessel, and so most of them employ human bodyguards for transport, protection and companionship. A Djinn delegation has now arrived in New York, represented by Ambassador Nashala, and Mirage is the bodyguard at her side — the one who fights on the Djinn’s behalf.
“I fight on behalf of the Djinn.”
“我代镇尼而战。”TL
The Djinn have come to buy a corner of Wyoming from the United States Federal Government and build a nation of their own: this is the Wyoming Land Purchase that all New York has heard of. The negotiations are not going smoothly. Kelvin says plainly that the Djinn have an uphill battle facing them.
“The djinn have an uphill battle facing them.”
“镇尼面临着一场艰苦的战斗”
Haze, for her part, has no interest in politics; her approval, she makes clear, will neither help nor hinder the Djinn. Mirage, in turn, reminds her that the Djinn deserve a home.
“The Djinn deserve a home, Haze.”
“镇尼理应有个家,岚梦”
The Djinn’s plight draws both covetous eyes and hostility. Paradox has her heart set on the bottle that holds a Djinn and wants it for the Paradox Museum, while Mirage swears that the Djinn won’t rest until Paradox is dismantled.
“The Djinn won't rest until Paradox is dismantled.”
“镇尼不会罢休,直到悖论被彻底摧毁”
Lash mocks the Djinn for picking the wrong guy to protect them; Lady Geist declares that she does not fear the Djinn.
“The Djinn picked the wrong guy to protect them.”
“镇尼选错了保护他们的人”
The Djinn have relations of a sort with the Ixians as well. After downing the Ixian swordsman Apollo, Mirage worried that it did not bode well for relations between the two peoples.
“This does not bode well for Ixian and Djinn relations.”
“这对伊克斯亚人和镇尼之间的关系可不是什么好兆头”
Kelvin is not unmoved by what has befallen the Djinn, yet he draws a line: theirs is their own fight, not his.
“I empathize with the Djinn, but their fight isn't my own…”
“我同情镇尼,但他们的战斗与我无关…”
Deadman Danny, for his part, counts himself a representative of Fairfax Industries, and hopes he represents it better than Mirage represents the Djinn.
“I hope I represent Fairfax Industries better than he represents the Djinn.”
“希望我代表菲尔法克斯实业,比他代表精灵要强些。”TL
After downing Mirage, Violet only hoped, under her breath, that he wasn’t the Djinn’s best chance at a home.
“I hope you weren't the Djinn's best chance at a home.”
“我希望你不是精灵回家的最佳希望吧。”TL
