Ava

Ava is an Egyptian cat, and the member of the family Calico cherishes most. After leaving the Baxter Society, Calico took to killing people for money; by her own account she doesn’t feel bad about any of it, and she sleeps well at night. And wherever she goes, Ava is always at her side.

To hear Calico tell it, Ava might as well be her daughter, and she calls herself “Mommy.”

“Did you see that, Ava? Mommy killed a prince.”

“看到了吗，艾娃？妈咪杀了一位王子。”TL

She always addresses Ava with tenderness, and before she gets to work she never forgets to ask whether Ava is ready too.

“Ava darling, are you ready to get to work?”

“亲爱的艾娃，你准备好开始工作了吗？”

Others find Ava just as remarkable. To Mo & Krill, she outranks cats and queens alike; Paige finds her adorable; and Rem says she has silly dreams.

“There are cats. There are queens. And then there is Ava.”

When Calico has fallen, several of her opponents have, as if by common accord, spoken of where Ava will go. Vindicta promised to find her a home, Ivy was sure the Arroyos would adopt her, and Pocket said he would take care of her.

“Don't worry, I'll find Ava a home.”

“别担心，我会给艾娃找个家的”

“Don't worry Calico, I'm sure the Arroyos will adopt Ava.”

“别担心，卡厉可，我相信阿若悠一家一定会收养艾娃的”

The Doorman, for his part, declared that she would belong to the Baroness soon enough.

Even Kelvin has worried about her. He wasn’t sure Calico should have brought her cat to a place like this; Calico brushed it off, saying only that Ava would be fine. Later he still told her plainly that the cat deserved better than her.

“That cat deserves better than you, Calico…”

“那只猫值得比你更好的人，卡厉可…”

Violet has painted Ava’s portrait too, calling her perfect and declaring her pet portrait business ready to take off.
