Geist Foundation
The Geist Foundation is a charity in the name of Lady Geist, and Lady Geist presides over it in person. It gives money to schools, to expeditions and to institutions of every kind, and its good name has travelled far.
The foundation once paraded street urchins before the cameras for good press. The child who would one day become Pocket was one of them.
“You were of the urchins my foundation paraded around for good press weren't you.”
Among those it funds is Blackmore Academy. The Graves family has given to it regularly, and Graves has studied at a school that benefits from its money; the lady has some pointed things to say about how the school spends it.
“Correct, that's why there was no question mark. I see the money I give them isn't being used to hire quality educators.”
TL
Its most famous grant went to Kelvin’s Arctic expedition. Kelvin still admits that without the money there would have been no expedition at all; but once the expedition failed, the lady came to regard the money as a squandered investment, and declared it withdrawn.
“I'm serious. Obviously the expedition didn't go as planned, but we wouldn't have had the opportunity were it not for your funding.”
“Consider this the official removal of my funding.”
Silver knows full well what the foundation’s money is worth, and is sure that Kelvin, with it in hand, can afford a guide’s fee.
“Oh come on, you have Geist Foundation money!”
Word on the Street
“I imagine the Graves family will not be donating to the foundation this year.”
TL
“That guy likes to pretend he's on some moral high ground but he was happy to take Geist's money.”
