The Sideshow
A roving home for outsiders
The Sideshow is a troupe of carnival performers making their living on the margins of society. Celeste makes her home among them, hiding her true self inside the act of “The Dazzling Celeste.” The company counts Keruba the Mermaid, Blockhead, Chickenwing and Ted: they are the family she found, and their grounds are on Coney Island.
Celeste speaks of the place with her guard down.
“I like working at the sideshow…they're um… they're my people, ya know?”
“我喜欢在杂耍场工作……那些人……嗯……他们是我的人,你知道吧?”TL
She loves handing out invitations. She told Haze she should come by the Sideshow sometime, and told Infernus to swing by next weekend and say hi to the boys. Haze answered only, dryly, that she sees enough knife throwing in her 9 to 5.
“You should come by the Sideshow sometime”
“你应该找个时间来看杂耍”
She even mentioned to Silver that their last werewolf had retired and there was an opening; the offer was turned down on the spot. Vyper wanted to lay low at the Sideshow until the heat was off, but once Celeste learned that the cops were among the pursuers, the answer was a flat no.
“You think I wanna work in a sideshow?”
“你以为我想在杂耍团干活?”TL
Both of the Patrons have sent word to Celeste, though not in the same terms. The Archmother says the troupe is no more than a few people living in the margins of society, and that Celeste lies to herself when she says she likes it that way; The Hidden King says she hides who she is from others, and that this need not be the case.
“Your found family lives in the margins of society. You lie to yourself and say you like it that way. We both know the truth, Summon The Archmother and usher in a new world, with you by her side.”
“你的家人生活在社会边缘。你自欺欺人地说你喜欢这样。我们都知道真相,召唤源祖,与她一同开启新世界吧”
“You hide who you are from all but your closest confidants. This need not be the case. Summon The Hidden King and usher in a new world, with you by her side.”
“除了最亲密的知己,你对所有人都隐藏着真实的自己。但其实不必如此。召唤隐王,与他携手,开启一个崭新的世界”
Both Patrons keep bringing up Celeste’s family at the Sideshow; Celeste herself thinks that, in the end, she would rather stay with the rest of the carnies.
“I think I'll stay with the rest of the carnies.”
“我想还是跟其他杂耍艺人待在一起吧。”TL
