血族国度
The Vampire Nation is a rigidly hierarchical vampire society, where title and seniority decide everything. Viscounts hold sway over their domains, the Barony of New York among them; and the elders, who have lived far too long, still keep to their old world.
Salons are the stuff of this society’s daily life. To attend is good form; not showing up is seen as a snub — and the only thing worse than a boring old vampire is an angry one.
Mina is the newest arrival at the very bottom of this society. Tired of gazing up the ladder, she means to shake up the whole hierarchy in New York, and she has set her sights on the Viscount’s seat.
“I'm tired of being at the bottom of the vampiric social ladder.”

Her ambition is undisguised; she even counts the Vampire Nation’s notice as a trophy.
“Think the Vampire Nation is taking note now?”
“你认为血族国度现在注意了吗？”
“Soon the barony of New York will belong to me.”

Not everyone is enamored of these rules. Drifter says he used to play the game of power, wear the lace, say the pretty words, and now he holds it all in contempt. He calls the whole system a Ponzi scheme, and urges Mina to realize it the sooner the better.
“The Vampire Nation is a Ponzi scheme, Mina, the sooner you realize that the better…”
“血族国度是个庞氏骗局，米娜，你越早意识到这一点越好…”
“I used to play the game, wear the lace, say the pretty words. Let me tell you, friend... the pursuit of power is a trap.”

Venator is one of the Venators. He sees straight through Mina’s ambition and tells her flatly that she wants to be queen of the vampires; Mina, for her part, tells him to leave the Vampire Nation alone.
“So you want to be queen of the vampires.”
