The Barony of New York is the domain of the Vampire Nation in New York, held by a Viscount. In the shadows of this city, the vampires keep titles and an order all their own.
Hardly a soul in the domain does not know Drifter.

Mina has long had her eye on the Viscount’s seat. She makes no secret of her ambition.
“Soon the barony of New York will belong to me.”

Grey Talon saw through her designs and once told her to her face not to do it.
“I know you seek to usurp Simon. Don't do it.”

“You don't really want to be Viscount. You want the power that comes with the title. So just wish for fame or money or some other thing that you think will give you a fabulous life with zero responsibility, and don’t disrupt the entire Barony of New York.”

Two voices in the dark urge her on at once: the other vampires of the domain, they say, are old and weak, and she alone can lead the Barony to new heights — but first she must complete the Ritual. The Archmother and The Hidden King tell her the very same thing, word for word.
“The other vampires are old. Weak. Not in power, but in spirit. In vision. But not you. You have the chance to lead the Barony of New York to new heights… but first you must complete the ritual.”
