Wraith's Organization

Wraith’s Organization deals in gambling, protection and debt across New York. Wraith styles herself a gambler born, and keeps the business in meticulous order besides.

She never hides what she trades in; she simply prefers a more dignified turn of phrase. When others label her services “rackets,” this is her answer:

“I don't appreciate the news labeling some of my services as "rackets." Who wouldn't love being protected by me?”

“我不喜欢新闻把我的一些服务称为“敲诈”。谁不想受到我的保护呢？”

“Blackmail sounds so sleezy. I prefer "information retention services."”

“敲诈听着太下作了。我更喜欢叫它「情报留存服务」。”TL

To her, crime is no enterprise for a rabble; its foundation is ledgers and rules:

“Can't help, I need to go over my ledger… people always underestimate how important the organized part of "organized crime" is.”

“帮不上忙，我得核对账本……人们总是低估「有组织犯罪」里「有组织」的重要性。”TL

The organization runs on debt. Anyone who owes a “marker” is kept on a tight leash: Vyper paid one off once, yet was still refused another; and when they took out Wraith, he breathed a sigh of relief at once, reckoning he wouldn’t have to pay her back. Wraith has also chimed in on the tangle of Lenny’s debts, in a businesswoman’s tone; see Lenny's Soul Debt.

Nor is she without people to do her work. When Graves pressed her about those who had died because of her, she first wanted to know which ones were meant — those she had killed herself, or those her people killed:

“That I've killed or my people killed.”

“是我杀的，还是我手下杀的。”TL

Still, she does not merely hide behind others. She says she believes in leading by example, and sees to things in person.

Holliday isn’t buying any of it. She has told Wraith flatly to shut the organization down, or Murphy is going to shut it down for her:

“Either you shut it down or Murphy's gonna shut it down for you.”

“要么你关闭它，要么墨菲会帮你关闭它”

Wraith regards the sheriff with cold pragmatism; striking her down, she had only this to say:

“One less cop to bribe.”

“又少了一个要贿赂的警察”
