Behead one snake, another comes
Vindicta’s reckoning with the Friends of Humanity is a war waged in the name of vengeance. John Hathorne has already fallen to her blade, but Haze believes this is not the end.
As Haze sees it, Hathorne’s martyrdom will only galvanize his followers to press on.
“Your war with the Friends of Humanity. Martyring John Hathorne will galvanize them.”

Vindicta would not give an inch: when the next snake appears, she declared, she will chop off its head too.
“And when the next snake appears, I'll chop off its head too”

Haze pressed her: and the one after that? And the one after that?
“And the one after that? And the one after that?”

Vindicta’s answer was calm and cold: she is already dead, and she has all the time in the world.
“I'm dead Haze. I have all the time in the world.”
