Friends of Humanity

The Friends of Humanity is a controversial political movement, founded by the descendants of John Hathorne. Outsiders often call it a “new inquisition,” and the anti-occult sentiment it stands for has put a good many people on their guard.

The old shadow of the Salem Witch Trials has taken shape once more in this organization. Its figurehead is a man of fierce controversy; the papers have gone so far as to ask whether he is a political firebrand, or the founder of a new inquisition.

They have announced a rally in New York to demand that the US cease sending aid to the Outer Planes; they have held a rally in Boston too, with private security on hand. The New York Oracle once set out to investigate whether anti-occult sentiments are on the rise.

Yet these rallies do not always end in peace. Vindicta holds a bone-deep blood feud against the movement, and she makes no secret of her intentions.

“The Friends of Humanity will be eradicated from this Earth.”

This is Vindicta's war on the Friends of Humanity. Single-handedly she has declared war on the whole organization, and its known associates have been winding up dead one after another, shot with a high-powered rifle. Haze once warned her that martyring Hathorne would only galvanize his followers; Drifter urged her not to limit herself to them, since there are plenty of people who deserve to die. According to Calico, it is because of her that no one takes out contracts on members of the Friends of Humanity anymore: wait long enough, and Vindicta will kill them for free.

“No ones taking contracts out on members of the Friends of Humanity because they know if they wait long enough you'll just kill them for free. Would you mind easing up a bit and leaving some for the rest of us.”

Another hunter is Grey Talon. By Mo & Krill’s account, he is the man making life hell for the Friends of Humanity; he himself has spoken of a Friends of Humanity safe house he needs to burn down. Infernus once asked him to his face whether he was the guy running around killing Friends of Humanity members; Mo & Krill thanked him.

“Can't. There's a Friends of Humanity safe house I need to burn down.”

Apollo is convinced he had a hand in the fire at the Boston rally, and demanded to know what, then, explained the private security with arrows stuck in them. Grey Talon answered only that we live in strange times.

Mo & Krill call Vindicta’s war a just one. Apollo commends the war but not her tactics; his own life has been affected by political assassination, and so his feelings are complicated.

Billy is just as irreconcilably opposed to the Friends of Humanity. As he tells it, saying “hi” to FoH members is a lot more fun when he brings the bat.
