Ixian Ruling Family

The ruling family of North Ixia is counted as royalty on its native soil. As the Ixians themselves put it, there is a station there that wields the power of a governor and a general at once, and English has no proper word for it.

“It's a cultural thing. You don't have a word in English for someone who wields the power of a governor and a general the way we do in Ixia.”

The family hands down a sword of its forebears: Apollo's Ancestral Blade, kept as an heirloom. Its present heir is Apollo, whom others call “the prince.” He has never made a secret of his royal birth, and the family’s name is often on his lips.

“I will bring glory to my family's name.”

Prominence makes enemies, too. The Doorman once taunted Apollo to his face: children in Ixia, he said, sing a schoolyard rhyme about his mother being impaled on a tree. What befell Apollo's mother has become idle talk on the lips of those who hate the family.

“Apollo, how does it feel to be a part of a family so hated that children in Ixia sing a schoolyard rhyme about your mother being impaled on a tree?”

Both of the Patrons claim Apollo as their own: The Archmother says she is blessed to count Ixian nobility amongst her allies, and The Hidden King says almost exactly the same.

To Deadman Danny, the fall of “the Ixian prince” spells diplomatic trouble: Fairfax relations with North Ixia, he admits, just got a little more strained.
