第五十州的主权之争
凯登泽事件，是历史上令人屏息的一段插曲，围绕凯登泽岛展开。这座岛后来成为美国的第五十个州，而它的主权归属，一度闹到了最高法院。
岚梦曾向亲历此事的人问起当年的情形。
“凯登泽事件发生时，你是否在菲尔法克斯工作？”
“Were you working for FI when the whole Cadenza situation was going down?”
麦金妮那时还是个年轻人，在菲尔法克斯实业供职，满心担忧自己会丢掉饭碗。她回忆说，公司上下人心惶惶，唯独老板异常镇定。
“说实话，我们其他人比他更紧张。我当时只是个吓坏的孩子，因为我以为我要失业了，但是菲尔法克斯出奇地冷静。我觉得他没指望凯登泽会永远存在下去，他只是想在立法出台前充分利用这个机会。而且，他还说他成立了美国的一个州。”
“Honestly, the rest of us were more rattled than he was. I was just a kid freaking out cause I thought I was going to lose my job, but Fairfax was surprisingly calm. I don't think he expected Cadenza to last forever, he just wanted to make the most out of an opportunity before legislation caught up. Plus the guy gets to say he created one the United States.”
在她看来，马克西米利安·菲尔法克斯并不指望这一局面长久，只是想在立法追上来之前，把这个机会榨到最大。事件的余波一直延续到后来，报端仍在追问这座岛的主权归属。
“最高法院将在下届会议上就菲尔法克斯公平税收法案作出裁决。我们的第50个州能否继续留在联邦？菲尔法克斯工业公司能否成功重新夺回对凯登泽岛的主权？一切都将由时间来揭晓。”
“The Supreme Court is poised to rule on the Fairfax, Fair Tax Bill next session. Will our 50th state remain in the Union? Or will Fairfax Industries successfully regain it's soverignty over the island of Cadenza…only time will tell.”
