Human extermination campaigns

The war on ratkind was not the work of a single day. According to the Rat King, topside propaganda has been waging a war on his people for generations.

The Rat King, on the wronged side of it all, has never let it go. When Viscous marveled that rats were so cuddly and then asked why anyone would do such a thing, his only answer was: because humans are terrible. The Archmother’s voice has spoken to him of it too — humanity, she said, has killed and reviled ratkind for ages — and she promised to give his people a homeland no one can take from them.

That old grudge has not cooled. He has declared that those on the surface will get what’s coming to them, and asked in return: who’s exterminating who?

The Rat King’s hatred does not stop at some abstract “humanity.” He once told Deadman Danny to his face that thirty-one of his people died screaming thanks to him. Danny protested that he didn’t develop Vermicide; he just presented it. The Rat King, though, holds him complicit, and has sworn that one day he will make him suffer for it.

“You’re complicit.  And one day I’ll make sure you suffer for it.”
