Tunnel Rats

Beneath the streets of New York lies another city. The Tunnel Rats are an organization that facilitates illicit trade and commerce between the boroughs through a network of underground tunnels, and Mo & Krill stand at its head. The pair style themselves “Tunnel Rats,” and count themselves an underground service anyone can hire.

“So you need a couple Tunnel Rats, eh?”

“所以你需要几只隧道老鼠，是吧？”TL

“You're going to wish you had the Tunnel Rats on your side.”

“你会后悔没把隧道老鼠拉到你这边的。”TL

The outfit is extraordinarily well connected: it can procure rare books and Ixian trinkets for its clients, and is glad to pass word along to outsiders. Mendoza of the Mendoza Syndicate was once their client; when Ivy called Mendoza a bad man, Mo & Krill replied that “a bad man” and “a good client” are not mutually exclusive. Holliday, for her part, calls them “Molemen,” and reckons fighting them a risky business.

The tunnels are not only a trade route but a refuge. Mo & Krill count Pocket as family, and in the face of danger they say they are facing it “as a family”; Silver once crashed for a night at their hovel; Bebop once fought for his life in the pit, and Mo & Krill prize his gift and ask after how his family is faring; Calico, meanwhile, is an old acquaintance, with whom they share the easy understanding of those who have stood side by side.

To keep clear of the OSIC, Seven has made the old subway tunnels his temporary home, and he turned to them for the new tunnels he needs; they agreed to help, but at a higher rate. Turn it around, and when that hulking shape prowls the tunnels, Mo & Krill take it for the thing lurking on their own turf.

“So that was the thing prowling our tunnels…”

The deepest enmity comes from Rat King. He once wanted Mo & Krill working for him, and since they refused he has never let it go, reviling Pocket, whom they shelter, as “the moleman’s pet human” for good measure, and counting every “topsider” an outsider.
