Lost Whisper

Lost Whisper is an oubliette built to hold the most dangerous occultists in the world. Word has it that the place is impregnable.

As for its most famous prisoner, Seven, all manner of rumors circulate about what exactly he did to land himself here. But what happened on the night of his execution is beyond doubt — see the Execution at Lost Whisper. Wards laid by the most powerful ritualists of seven nations were meant both to shut out any outside interference and to obliterate his soul entirely. The wards failed. Seven did not die; instead he laughed as he tore free of his restraints and butchered his captors. He later spoke of it himself like this:

“I "stuck it to them" when I butchered my captors in Lost Whisper. The government's taken enough from me, they don't get to claim my wish as well.”

Ever since, “the man who escaped Lost Whisper” has been a label Seven cannot shake. When Paradox, Graves, Holliday and Apollo speak of him, they all say the same thing: he is the one who escaped Lost Whisper. Abrams, for his part, wanted to know what he had done to end up in Lost Whisper in the first place, and delivered his own verdict:

“Men like you deserve to rot in Lost Whisper.”

“像你这样的人就该烂在永寂黑渊里”

Venator is of the same mind. Silver joked, half in earnest, that Seven must be either sloppy or uncommonly competent:

“So should I be worried that you were sloppy enough to end up in Lost Whisper? Or glad that you're competent enough to escape?”

“所以我是该担心你大意到被关进永寂黑渊？还是该庆幸你有本事逃出来？”TL

Not everyone takes the prison’s side. Billy concedes that being locked up there “probably did suck,” while Baba boasts that she did what Lost Whisper couldn’t:

“I did what Lost Whisper couldn't.”

“永寂黑渊没办到的事，我办到了。”TL

Rumors of the escape reached the streets, too. The New York Oracle once openly questioned whether the dungeon was truly as impregnable as people said:

“We were told that Lost Whisper was impregnable… but is there any truth to the rumor that a dangerous inmate escaped? The New York Oracle investigates.”

The Patrons each have their own account of what befell him; both are courting him, but what they offer differs. The Hidden King recalls how he escaped Lost Whisper and killed his tormentors, says that it is not enough, and promises that if he completes the ritual, he will find himself in the court of The Hidden King:

“You escaped Lost Whisper. You killed your tormentors. But it is not enough. Complete the ritual, Seven. And find yourself in the court of The Hidden King.”

“你逃离了永寂黑渊，击败了折磨你的人，但这还不够。完成仪式，柒，你就会发现自己身处隐王的宫廷之中”

The Archmother says instead that his freedom and his life were both taken from him, but that they can be restored:

“Your freedom. Your life. All was taken from you, Seven, but it can be restored.”

There is a contract tangled up with this dungeon as well. Deadman Danny makes no secret of it: had Fairfax Industries won the Lost Whisper contract, Seven wouldn’t even be alive. Nor is he much impressed by the man who escaped it:

“I expected more from a Lost Whisper fugitive.”
