United States Federal Government

The United States Federal Government is the power behind the OSIC, and the hand behind the Sandman Division as well. Haze is a Sandman in its service, and she has said plainly that she loves her country.

“I love my country.”

“我爱我的国家”

Having brought Haze down, Vyper remarked, half mocking herself, that if she wasn’t on the fed’s radar before, she certainly is now.

“Well if I wasn't on the fed's radar before, I certainly am now.”

“如果说之前我还没引起联邦政府的注意，那现在肯定引起了”

Seven bears the country a deep grudge. He was once thrown into an extra-judicial prison, butchered his captors in Lost Whisper, and refuses to let the government claim his wish as well.

“I "stuck it to them" when I butchered my captors in Lost Whisper. The government's taken enough from me, they don't get to claim my wish as well.”

“我在永寂黑渊屠杀看守我的人时，就已经“报复”过了。政府从我身上拿走的够多了，我的愿望，不能再让他们染指。”TL

The federal government’s attitude decides whether Rat King’s dream of founding a nation stands or falls. Haze once advised him to find a new dream: his throne will last only as long as the federal government cares to tolerate it, and if he goes through with executing everyone on Long Island, that day will come pretty quick.

“Listen, my advice is to find a new dream. I'm telling you your reign will end the moment the US government wants it to, and if you go through with executing everyone on Long Island, that's gonna happen pretty quick.”

“听着，我的建议是换个梦想。我告诉你，只要美国政府想让你的统治结束，它立刻就会结束，而你要是真处决了长岛上所有人，那会来得很快。”TL

The federal government does not recognize Ratannia.

“Respectfully your highness, Ratannia is not recognized by the US government so they should be fine.”

“恕我直言，殿下，美国政府并不承认鼠不列颠，所以他们应该没事。”TL

Mirage, scheming for the Djinn to buy part of Wyoming — the Wyoming Land Purchase — once asked Haze whether her government would be reasonable, and pointed to Louisiana as a reminder that it would not be without precedent.

“It's how you got Louisiana.”

“你们就是这样得到路易斯安那州的”

Kelvin, too, has found himself in the federal government’s sights. When Haze came to question him on behalf of the OSIC, he asked whether this was a friendly request for a chat or a threat; she answered frankly: why not both.

“It's the federal government, why not both.”

“这是联邦政府，为什么不能两者兼有之？”

Later, fighting at Haze’s side, he seemed faintly surprised that the government actually was there to help.

“Turns out the government actually is here to help. Hm.”

“原来政府确实会提供帮助。嗯”

Deadman Danny regards federal regulation as an outside constraint his company cannot get around. There is no federal regulation on his jetpacks yet, but he knows full well that it is only a matter of time before they must meet the minimum federal safety standards; and having brought Haze down, he admitted himself that this was going to complicate things in Washington.

“This is going to complicate things in Washington...”

“这下华盛顿那边可就麻烦了……”TL

Violet is unimpressed, sure that the government doesn’t care in the slightest what she paints.

“The government doesn't give a shit about what I paint.”

“政府才不在乎我画什么。”TL

Seven sees it quite differently: the moment her art starts to say anything of worth, they will.

“If you ever decide to make your art say anything of worth they will.”

“哪天你让你的艺术说出点有分量的东西，他们就会在乎了。”TL
