十八岁生日的枪击
The Shooting
口袋十八岁生日那天，收到的是一颗正中胸口的子弹。他提起此事时，没有半点温情，并称这份“礼物”出自他的父亲之手。
“我父亲送我的十八岁生日礼物是一颗子弹，正中胸口。今天，我要好好地对他说一声“谢谢”。”译
“My father's gift for my 18th birthday was a bullet to the chest. Today's my chance to say "thank you."”
开枪的是卡厉可。她承认自己扣下了扳机，却坚称无意取人性命；口袋则记得，那颗子弹只差四分之一英寸便会穿透心脏。
“我是开枪打你，可没想杀你。”译
“I shot you, I didn't try to kill you.”
“放屁。再偏右四分之一英寸，那颗子弹就正中我的心脏了。”译
“The hell you didn't. A quarter inch to the right and that bullet would've been square in my heart.”
口袋活了下来。旁人谈及此事，往往只剩一句嘲弄。
““爸爸想抛弃我，”可怜的宝宝”
“"Daddy tried to kill me," poor baby.”
所罗门则对他说，他已经迷失了方向，并称死亡与重生相辅相成。
