The Troubadour

The Troubadour is an infamous serial killer; the name is the one the public gave him. He is said to be a travelling folk musician who never stays long in one place, and wherever he goes he leaves nothing behind but stories that chill the blood.

His name is bound up with Macomb, a small town in central Illinois, where the Macomb Murders took place. Holliday, the town’s sheriff at the time, could not stop them.

Months later, new rumors came drifting down from the skies over Champaign-Urbana.

“A murder of crows suspected to be the infamous serial killer known as "The Troubador" was spotted flying over Champaign-Urbana today… could he be flying to New York?”

“一群疑似臭名昭著的连环杀手“游吟诗人”所化身的乌鸦今天被发现飞过香槟城……他会飞向纽约吗?”

— Newscaster

To Holliday, this is a killer who must be stopped. It is for him that she came to New York.

“I'm not leaving New York until I stop the Troubadour.”

“在阻止游吟诗人之前,我不会离开纽约”

— Holliday

She is not the only one on his trail. Shiv has promised that when this is over he will kill the Troubadour on her behalf; Venator wants her to leave the Troubadour to him; Silver has her eye on the bounty on his head. Others have told her to leave the Troubadour to the OSIC.

“Don't worry, Holliday, when this is over I'll kill The Troubadour on your behalf…”

“别担心,哈雷黛,等这一切结束后,我会为你追猎游吟诗人…”

— Shiv, to Holliday

Drifter knows him only by reputation and has never met the man. He urges Holliday to let it go: as he sees it, Macomb was just a fun time to the Troubadour, soon lost in the ocean of memory — but once he knows he has his hooks in her, she will become his hobby.

“Macomb matters a lot to you, but to him it was just a fun time that will get lost in the ocean of memory. But if you find him… if he knows he got his hooks in you? You're going to be his hobby.”

“马科姆对你来说意义非凡,但对他而言,那只是一段美好的回忆,终将湮没在记忆的海洋中。但如果你找到他… 如果他知道你已经对他着迷——你就会成为他的消遣”

— Drifter, to Holliday

Infernus once asked Drifter point-blank whether he was the Troubadour, and was told he was not. Baba and the Doorman both believe Holliday is not strong enough to stop him; the Doorman goes further, declaring that what she failed to do in Macomb she will fail to do again in New York.

“You failed to stop The Troubadour in Macomb and you'll fail again in New York.”

“你没能阻止马科姆的游吟诗人,你还会在纽约再次失败”

— The Doorman, to Holliday

Word on the Street

“You're not strong enough to stop The Troubadour”

“你没有足够的力量阻止游吟诗人”

— Baba, to Holliday
